2025 Newman School Prep Profile
Viewed by many to be the favorite in Class AAA of the NEPSAC this season, the Newman School has reloaded, looking to defend its first AAA title in program history.
The Cardinals are entering their fourth season under Jackson Johnson, and once again have a deep roster.
With a schedule that is sure to be loaded with heavyweight matchups, the Cardinals are well-positioned to compete both regionally and in the National Prep Championship Series.
The Returners
Lucas Morillo and Quinn Costello are the two highest-ranked prospects on the team, both taking off in the last calendar year, and looking to bring the team back to the top. While Morillo was a decisive factor in the team’s NEPSAC AAA title last season, Costello (who recently committed to Michigan) will assume a larger role within the system. Costello's ascension as a 6'10" forward with a smooth outside stroke and developed strength led to a meteoric rise in the national rankings.
Also back this season in the Class of 2026 are Ivy League commits Chase Geremia (Penn), Louis O’Keefe (Princeton), and Timmy Bollin (Brown). Geremia is a pure shotmaking guard that will surely be a solid option for the squad, while O’Keefe will assume a good amount of the lead guard duties. Bollin will play his part once again as a scrappy forward who makes a strong impact as a slasher and enforcer on the defensive end who racks up steals.
Other returners include the likes of Kaden Bedard, Trey Grant, Christopher Taylor, Ryan Meltzer, Preston Bollin, Xavier Sanchez and Duke Clement.
The Newcomers
Newman will welcome several incoming talented players across multiple grades, from postgraduates to juniors, and once again has “reloaded.”
Atticus Richmond, a postgraduate from Illinois who played a bit of his career at the Berkshire School in Western Massachusetts, has returned to the region, joining Newman. Richmond announced his commitment to Columbia over the summer and will be a versatile inside/out scoring option with size for the Cardinals. Kabir Narasimhan, out of Switzerland, is another postgraduate of note, as the 6’5” wing will be a shooting threat opposing teams need to be aware of.
Davon Maloney headlines the incoming juniors to the roster, but the depth of talent coming into the school in that class speaks for itself with Boston native Jaylen Hunter-Coleman, Will Meribe, Jack Donohue, Philipe Ndong, and Jordan Smith.
Maloney, a 6’7” wing out of Upstate New York, comes in with multiple scholarship offers in hand. He’s another guy who can make things happen as a scorer from outside, or above the rim as a finisher. Hunter-Coleman has been a player we’ve seen a lot of up to this point, as the guard prides himself as a strong rebounder in the backcourt that brings toughness and physicality.
Jack Donohue has a reputation that precedes him as a sizeable knockdown shooter that picked up steam this past summer, with multiple offers coming his way. The New Jersey native, unfortunately, battled a heart issue during the grassroots season, but following a successful surgery, he looks to get back to 100% as the season approaches.
Meribe and Ndong both stand around the 6’8/6’9 mark and will be vital to the Cardinals' frontcourt this season. Meribe is known for his capable rim-running and shot-blocking, while Ndong brings more of a perimeter game as a shooter and scorer off the bounce from beyond the arc.
Defining Characteristics
The Cardinals certainly have one of the deepest prep school squads in both New England and the country as a whole. Chalk full of future college players at the High Major level to Division III, Newman will always have a player on the court who will eventually don a college jersey – a tough feat to say the least.
They have a good blend of returners who know what it’s like both to win and to do it in the system in place, while the incoming players bring the talent and upside to keep those winning ways going.
The Bottom Line
Newman will once again be a force to be reckoned with on paper, and should the depth of talent on the roster continue to gel together, they will undoubtedly be a contender.
