2025 New Hampton Prep Profile
The New Hampton Huskies were one of the top teams in New England this past season. Led by now college freshman Keyshuan Tillery (Cincinnati), Mason Blackwood (Penn State), and Naz Meyer (Wyoming), there was no lack in the scoring department.
Following their matriculation and Ty Tabales' departure early for Bryant, Head Coach Andrew Gale hit the recruiting trail and put together a new look squad for this upcoming year. The results have been promising as our glimpses of the squad over the summer provided us with a solid feel of what they've put together for this season. Here's a rundown on the team heading into this season.
The Returners
Chad Cook and Jayden Harrington will be heavily relied on this season as the senior duo enters their third year with the program.
Cook, a versatile forward who makes plays for others and can score in a few different ways, is working his way back from an injury this past summer. Harrington, a 6’4” wing/guard, is a knockdown off-ball shooting threat that serves as a great perimeter playmaker with above-average decision making and competes defensively.
Ben Safran is another returner to the squad. A 6’0” guard that can knock down outside shots, Safran has made his way onto the high-academic radar heading into his final season.
Kieran Sullivan and Beau Millar are two other familiar faces playing in New Hampton this season. Sullivan will look to show off his athleticism at the wing in his final season, while Millar enters his sophomore season.
The Newcomers
Making their way to New Hampshire in the class of 2026, Wesley Waddles, Trey Jones, Edison Onwe, Griffin Sward, and James Sanderson will all be new names running with Coach Gale’s squad this season.
Waddles, a 6’6” wing out of Northridge, California, announced his commitment to Maine in the last few weeks. He’s expected to be a focal point for the Huskies' offense with his outside shooting and tough finishing skills.
James Sanderson joins the squad with a ton of reported Division I offers to his name. The 6’2” guard is known for making things happen with the ball as he brings a quick handle and knack for creating off the dribble.
Trey Jones brings a ton of defensive versatility to the floor as he’s able to guard and switch across the floor, while Edison Onwe’s strength shines as a physical slasher and high-motor defender. Both wings are expected to serve as nice pieces for the squad.
Sward, a familiar face from Rhode Island, can get to his spots and see his shots fall just as he did at South Kingstown HS.
The 2027 and 2028 classes have some new names as well, in Stetson Merritt, Brandyn Clarke, Ryder Brainis, and Beau Millar.
Merritt, a skilled 6’3” guard, may be a focal point of the offense in the backcourt this season, especially following Tabales’ early departure. The New York native is a smooth shotmaker who changes speeds seamlessly and has crafty finishing in his bag.
Clarke, a 6’7” wing from Canada, is one to watch as he develops, as he has ideal wing size and athleticism. Brainis and Millar will be guards to keep an eye on as they make their way through the years in New Hampshire.
Defining Characteristics
The Huskies have a wealth of depth at the wing, with a lack of size at the center position. Being able to play competitive defense against bigger competition in the AAA is going to be essential to their success, a job that Chad Cook is ideal for.
Jayden Harrington and Cook are the longest members of the team, bringing their experience as winners in the program, and helping lead will be another huge factor for the team this season.
Bottom Line
The Huskies have a ton of talent once again, and while they don’t have the trio of top-end talent anymore, they will surely figure out how to balance the scoring and win games.
