2024 Frosh/Soph South #E75 - The Guards pt. 3
With a large amount of aspiring college players in the classes of 2027 and 2028 packing the gym almost two weeks ago now, there is a massive wealth of players to monitor moving forward. The recap continues with the third installment of the guards from the Connecticut event.
Jayquise Norfleet, Wilbur Cross - Norfleet plays with a motor on both ends of the court. He guards 94 feet out and uses his body well to pull in rebounds. He's got sound scoring abilities from all three levels and does a good job of looking to get others involved with his playmaking chops. He's a freshman to watch out of New Haven CT.
Jayden Vaz, East Providence - Vaz brings size to the guard position and uses it exceptionally well when scoring inside. He knows how to use his body to create separation from contesting defenders and can make tough shots inside. As he continues to improve his ballhandling and grows into his body, he is definitely a name to watch for in the RIIL.
Mark Vara, New Fairfield - The incoming freshman put on a great display at the Elite 75. He has some speed to his game, and got downhill when he wanted to using his first step. His shots were falling inside, and he has a bag of spins and other moves to create space from the defense.
Elijah Zuema, Notre Dame Prep - Zuema has a very fluid game at the guard spot with intriguing upside. He has sneaky bounce towards the rim, a clean form on his outside shots, and takes big strides to navigate his way to the basket on drives.
Robert Bullock, Weston - The incoming freshman’s offensive skillset was well noted by our scouts. He demonstrates good handle on the ball, and uses it to his advantage when attacking the rim. He did well finishing around the basket in this setting, but showed shooting capabilities as well.
Chase Henry, Sacred Heart (NY) - The New York native came up for the Frosh/Soph showcase and showed off his impressive scoring skillset. He's crafty with the ball, and has a quick handle which he can snap crossovers with. His shot creation is impressive off the dribble, and he converts a ton of pull-up mid-ranges.
Chase Gallant, Stratford - Standing at 6'3" already, and maybe still growing, Gallant's guard skills caught our eye. He makes smart passes to his teammates, gets into pull-ups from three-point range, and has potential to monitor down the line.
Jackson Stevens, Cheshire - Entering his freshman year at Cheshire High School, it was Stevens shooting ability that stood out. He made shots in bunches from outside and has longer arms for his size, which work to his advantage as a shooter.
Anthony Tallarita, Enfield High - Tallarita shows very good command of his body, which helps him in a variety of ways on drives and when creating shots for himself. He has a handle to go along with it and a strong finishing game around the basket.
Noah Hambley, South Hadley - Hambley is a pass-first guard with impressive vision and skills to thread the ball to open teammates. He snaps passes with velocity, and can find teammates all over the floor. His scoring skills shine on layups and floaters in the paint.
Kyare Holmes, Wilbur Cross - Holmes is a very athletic prospect with lock down defensive skills to guard 1-4. He’s crafty with the ball, but we also saw him making unselfish plays on the offensive end. If he keeps developing he will be another kid from the New Haven Heat that we will hear about in a couple years.
Nathan Gunn, Suffield - The older Gunn brother's scoring abilties were eyecatching at the Elite 75. He made shots from all three levels, knocking down shots in bunches from outside, and doing a good job of getting the looks he wanted around the basket.
Colby Gunn, Suffield - Coming into high school this year as a freshman, Colby has a smooth guard skillset. He has some crafty abilities with his handle to keep his man off-balance, and a fluid shot off the dribble.
Austin Heyer, Staples - Entering his sophomore year at Staples High School, Heyer was an eyecatcher at the Elite 75. He's got good command of the ball and plays with his eyes up. He can score it inside and out, but did well as a finisher around the basket.
Maurice Sheppard, Danbury - Sheppard shows great handling ability on the ball, as he uses it well to break down defenders and keep them guessing where he's going to go. Once getting downhill, his finishing around the basket is impressive.
Cesar Sanchez, Thomaston - The incoming Freshman at Thomaston High School brings a strong combination of speed and handling to the court. He uses his quick burst to get by his defender and has the handling to move throught he lane swiftly. Sanchez can get into pull-ups and convert, as well as finish in the paint.
