2024 Frosh/Soph #E75 - The Bigs
The Frosh/Soph Elite 75 was a blast with underclassmen from all over New England and New York making their way to one of the two showcase events. The gym was buzzing with coaches at the high school, prep and collegiate levels looking to get an eye on the up-and-coming class of 2027 & 2028 prospects.
To kick off the recap of the event, let's take a look at some of the big men who caught our eye over the weekend.
Theo Edema, Cushing - One of the most improved players overall throughout New England, Edema was a true force in his appearance at Frosh/Soph. He's gotten stronger and more assertive in the paint, reeling in rebounds, overpowering defenders at the rim for dunks and blocking shots. It was his three-point shooting that stood out above all though as he's added a new threat to his game, knocking down a bunch of three's at the event.
Kamsi Awaka, Cheshire - One of New England's best underclassmen frontcourt prospects once again showed out in front of our scouting staff. Awaka's development is notable as he flashed post playmaking skills, has improved his footwork in the post and developed more post moves as well. Has a handful of scholarship offers in hand with seemingly a lot more to follow.
Spencer Booth, Milton - Reclassing into what looks to be a loaded 2027 class at Milton Academy, Booth returned for a second run in the Frosh/Soph showcase. At 6'10", he's already a shooting threat from behind the arc with a quick release on the ball. He brings a two way presence, holding down the paint on defense and being able to switch onto smaller defenders. The Maine native is tracking to be a coveted big man in the sophomore class.
Eric Figueroa, North Middlesex Regional - Hailing from the small town of Townsend in Northern Mass, Figueroa was a pleasant surprise. He's got daunting size at 6'8, and plenty of room to fill out his frame at just fifteen years old. His mid-range game is impressive as he's got a smooth touch to his shot and can get it off in a variety of ways. Looks to be a very intriguing prospect to monitor in the Massachusetts 2027 class.
Salim Diaby, CATS - One year into his schooling in America, Diaby is still learning the game, but has plenty of tools that signal his potential to be a big time frontcourt prospect. He's got extremely long arms, runs the floor as well as anyone and is working on adding muscle mass. The Guinea native blocks shots, finishes around the rim and has potential to be a floor spacing threat down the line.
Johnny Akot Bol, Macduffie - The seven foot big man has obvious physical traits to his game, but has continued to standout as a rim protector and holding his own when switched onto smaller players. He has shown improvement getting out on the break and has the skill to convert jump hooks around the paint. With development on his rebounding motor, shot selection and strength he tracks to be a very good prospect.
Coley Mark, Cushing - Size and shooting is the perfect way to describe the incoming Cushing Academy 2027. He stands around seven feet tall and can be the best shooter on the court at times. He showed off his defensive potential holding down the paint and blocking shots, as well as positioning himself for boards and putback opportunities.
David Jung-Hernandez, Macduffie - Incoming Macduffie post man, David Jung-Hernandez has some upside to his game in the class of 2027. Hernandez exudes energy on the court, making important hustle plays, hauling in boards, getting positioned in the post and setting hard screens. He's still adapting to the game as a newcomer to the sport, but with a polished post-scoring set he can be a very strong prospect.
Lincoln Malcore, Kent's Hill - Representing the small town of Wilton Maine, 6'8" freshman Lincoln Malcore looks to have promising upside in the frontcourt. In this setting, Malcore showed off a strong ability to serve as a roll man out of PnR's and finish around the basket. He's got plenty of time to develop his body in the weight room and expand his game further out from the paint.
Sam Roidoulis, Windham - New Hampshire's Roidoulis made an impact as a high motor rebounder, especially on the offensive end. He's got some moves to score in the post with hook shots and floaters from a few feet out, and does a good job of using his body.
Michael Therrien, Putnam Science - Joining PSA from Pomfret CT in the class of 2027, the 6'7" big man flashed some potential at the showcase. He's got a strong upper body which he uses to manuever his way in the post for shots at the basket and to box out for rebounds. Knocked down a number of three's off the catch as well.
Stay tuned as we continue to make our way through a loaded two-day event with recaps coming out daily!
