2013 State Rankings Announced

With the July evaluation period now a thing of the past, it is time for the New England Report to update our prospect rankings.  Today we begin that process by announcing new class of 2013 rankings in all six New England states.
 
The lists are intentionally short, with lots left to be proven over the course of the coming season, and are also limited to players making their return to the region.    

There’s a new number one in Connecticut as Kuran Iverson’s transfer to Fishburne Military Academy in Virginia has opened the door for Dayshon Smith, Kahlil Dukes and Samual Dingba to all make their respective cases for the top spot.  The Connecticut class of 2013 can also be characterized by tremendous depth as it was very difficult to limit the rankings to just 10 players.

The battle for top billing in the state of Maine came down to a pair of returning teammates at Lee Academy in Mohammed Bah and Kiefer Douse while Garet Beal continues to lead the pack among the local talent in the high school ranks.

In Massachusetts, the race for the top spot is a close one as Rene Castro showed well on the EYBL circuit all year, Andrew Chrabascz was as widely recruited a player as our region had before committing to Butler, and the Notre Dame Prep trio of Jaylen Brantly, Matt Atewe, and Jamel Artis all own legitimate high-major recruitment at this point.

Wayne Selden continues to be the top prospect in the state of New Hampshire, but the arrival of Brewster Academy big man Kyle Washington (who previously played in Connecticut at the Hotchkiss School) gives the state another prospect for the highest levels even before the arrival of additional prep talent.

The state of Rhode Island has been absolutely decimated by prospects who continue to leave the RIIL in favor of the prep ranks, but Charles Correa’s return to St. Raphael Academy gives the Ocean State a clear cut top prospect among the returning players.  It’s a wide open field from there on down as the top five even includes a couple of prospects making their debut.

The state of Vermont has a new top ranked prospect as Daquein McNeil has retaken a spot he previously held at this time last year.  While McNeil comes via the state’s only prominent prep program at Vermont Academy, Matt St. Amour’s big summer was enough to distinguish him as the top prospect among the high school ranks.
