2011 Rankings Expanded – Connecticut

Maurice Harkless is the top rated player in the newly announced Connecticut 2011 rankings.  The New York native and one time UConn commit arrived at the South Kent School this year with recruitment from handfuls of high-major programs throughout the country but ultimately elected to join Steve Lavin and his highly regarded first class at St. John’s. 

Derrick Wilson is well on his way to proving his doubters wrong in his senior year and the Marquette bound guard is our second ranked player in the state of Connecticut.  Another Wilson, Hillhouse’s Freddie Wilson is the CIAC’s top ranked player and also headed to the Big East next year. 

Derrick Randall is the first big man to appear on the list as South Kent’s rugged power forward is the third ranked player in the state and on his way to Rutgers next year.  A pair of teammates come in at five and seven as GeLawn Guyn is a physically imposing guard headed to Rutgers while Nemanja Djurisic has solidified his stock as a high-major target inside the paint. 

The remainder of the top ten is completed by the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Brandon Sherrod and a trio of prospects from St. Thomas More in Damion Lee, Fairfield bound forward Adam Jones, and Indiana Faithful. 

Four players headed to local division I schools come in next beginning with Salisbury’s versatile guard Zaid Hearst and Marianapolis Prep post Ousmane Drame at 11 and 13 respectively.  Drame’s Marianapolis teammate, Zach Chionuma comes in at 12 while Sacred Heart bound floor general Phil Gaetano is 14. 

The rest of the state’s top 30 are all uncommitted and include a variety of local Connecticut natives including Anthony Jernigan at 15, Deshawn Murphy at 17, Brian Patterson at 18, Desmond Williams at 19, Jerome Harris at 20, OShawn Bannister at 21, Tylon Smith at 24, Rohan Brown at 25, and Dennis Levene at 28.  Other New England natives Andre King and Jarell Byrd also make the list at 23 and 30.
