ZG Tournament of Champions Preview

In the second to last week of fall circuit action, Zero Gravity heads to the University Sports Center and Mansfield Sportsplex this weekend for the Tournament of Champions, which is sure to be a loaded high school field in what has been the most competitive ZG Fall circuit yet.

This weekend’s boys’ varsity division may very well be the most competitive group to hit ZG events this fall. The field will feature regular powers like BABC, Mass Rivals, and New England Playaz – all of whom have had very a very impressive fall on the ZG circuit. While BABC (last week’s NE Hoop Fest varsity champion), Rivals, and the Playaz are sure to make a run on championship Sunday – look out and keep a close eye on some of New England’s strongest programs in Bay State Magic 12th, Mig’s Team, South Shore Wolfpack, and Lone Wolf.

The 10th grade field should play host to plenty of exciting games as well. The field hosts previous champions in BABC and New England Playaz, while Expressions Elite and Mass Rivals White-Pastore are expected to bring two of the most talented teams that we’ve seen all fall. Mass Rivals Blue-Morales should be one of the most talented teams in the event as well, but we could see a deep run on championship Sunday from NE Blizz-Friaoli (last week’s national division champion), a scrappy Boston Bobcats-Alves squad, Expressions-Worrell, and South Shore Wolfpack-Brown.

The ninth grade field has been dominated by BABC all fall long, but there are plenty of teams who will look to knock them off this weekend at MPlex and The U. Expressions Elite and New England Playaz appear to be the favorites to do so, as the Playaz fell in a 99-89 thriller to BABC in last weekend’s championship game while Expressions lost a close championship game to BABC earlier this month at Mass Premier. Those aren’t the only challengers though, Mass Rivals 1-Pastore appeared to be one of the best teams in the field at last weekend’s NE Hoop Fest, while Boston Bobcats, Central Mass Swarm-Byrnes, BV Chaos-Dion, and Boston Warriors-Cupid have been bringing their best game all fall long.

NERR and ZG Report will be on hand all weekend long with constant updates and analysis of each game. All schedules and brackets for the Tournament of Champions can be found at ZeroGravityBasketball.com. Be sure to follow along on twitter as well @NERRHoops and @ZGReport.
