ZG Battle for the Belt - Preview
In most parts of the country, grassroots basketball doesn't mean very much in the fall months.
And in fact, that used to be the case in New England.
That all changed several years ago when Zero Gravity introduced their Path to the Belt series, culminating with the Battle for the Belt, which crowned the undisputed fall champions in each respective age group.
That tradition returns this weekend to punctuate what has already been an exciting season of basketball.
The fields are loaded and the stakes high in all three of the high school divisions. There are 68 teams vying for the opportunity to carry out the belt in the varsity division. 65 teams in the 10th grade division and another 60 in the 9th grade division.
Among the programs in action are the likes of BABC, Rivals, ASA Hoops, RI Elite, Middlesex Magic, Rise Above, Blue Wave Elite, Mass Elite, Central Mass Swarm, Team Sims, New England Storm, Expressions Boston, Boston Bocats, and numerous others.
