Woodstock’s Venning D1 Bound
Woodstock Academy and Expressions Elite big man Chad Venning announced his commitment to Morgan State University via his social media on Thursday afternoon.
Venning is a New York native who has spent the last two years in the New England prep ranks, first appearing at the MacDuffie School as a repeat junior from Bishop Loughlin High School and then following head coach Jacque Rivera to Woodstock Academy for his final year.
In the summer between those two seasons, Venning joined Expressions and made his debut in the Nike EYBL.
Venning's improvement in his two years in the prep ranks might be more accurately described as a transformation. He arrived at roughly 300 pounds and without a division I offer to his name, but significantly improved his conditioning while earning scholarship offers all the way up to the Atlantic 10.
Now, he projects as a steal for Morgan State who should be able to make an immediate impact not just because of his immovable size but also his 7-foot-1 wingpsan, soft hands, and good touch.
Venning is the 8th member of Woodstock's 2020 class to commit to a D1 school and the 9th member of the class to accept a full athletic scholarship.
