Woodstock’s Toppin A10 Bound
Woodstock Academy forward Jacob Toppin made a verbal commitment to the University of Rhode Island on Friday.
His commitment marked the 11th member of Woodstock’s 2019 class to accept a division I scholarship.
Toppin announced his decision via his Instagram account.
Toppin is a classic late-bloomer who didn’t have a division I offer to his name at this time last year when he graduated from Ossining High School in New York.
He’s made huge strides within the last year though, both with regards to his body and his game, and saw his recruitment surge in recent months as a result.
Toppin is also the younger brother Dayton forward Obi Toppin, a similar late-bloomer who won Roomie if the Year in the Atlantic 10 this year after putting up 14 points and 6 rebounds per game.
“Jacob is a big time shooter with great size and length to go with a tremendous skillset,” URI head coach David Cox said. “This is a young man with a high IQ who comes in with a strong basketball pedigree. Jacob has a high ceiling with the potential to have a tremendous impact on our program.”
