Winchendon’s Romano Commits to SCSU
Winchendon School and New Haven Heat forward Mason Romano made a commitment to Southern Connecticut State University and head coach Scott Burrell over the weekend.
The commitment brings Romano back to his home state where he previously played for Newington High School prior to last season.
Romano’s arrival at Winchendon propelled his recruitment to the D1 level in a matter of months as he picked up six division I offers during his junior season, prior to the pandemic.
“I was so proud of that kid, because he didn’t get caught up in level,” Winchendon head coach Kevin Kehoe said. “He had six division I offers and he was intelligent enough to understand that, as a 6-foot-6 wing, he was going to play for a former Connecticut 6-foot-6 wing, who played it at a pretty high level. That is a mature young man right there.”
Romano is a high-level athlete and explosive finisher who plays up at the top of the box and provides the type of burst that you don’t often see at the D2 level.
Below are highlights from his junior season.
2021 Mason Romano made waves in his first year at Winch. The uber athletic wing/forward holds offers from NJIT, Charleston Southern, Quinnipiac and Hartford. Can't wait to have him back next year..
