Westminster’s Carton Charfole earns scholarship
Westminster School post-graduate forward Rafa Carton Charfole made a verbal commitment to accept a full athletic scholarship offer from the University of Minnesota Crookston, a small public university with a division II athletics program.
"They showed they really wanted me and also that I was going to make an ipact on their team," he told NERR's Zack Sandberg. "The importance of a degree from the University of Minnesota and obviously the full scholarship [were factors too]."
Minnesota Crookston is not a school that has historically recruited in New England or the northeast region, but Carton Charfole had a connection to their program as his friend and former teammate Javier Nicolau is currently a senior there.
Carton Charfole is a native of Gran Canaria Island in Spain who is in his first year in New England.
He made his local debut this fall at the Connecticut Open Gym and immediately impressed with his strong body and versatile attack. Standing at 6-foot-7 with a thick, solid frame, he was both able to get downhill through contact in the open floor and also able to stretch the floor with his shooting range in the half-court.
He's currently averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game for Westminster.
I’m extremely blessed to announce my commitment to University of Minnesota (Crookston), where I will be playing Division II college basketball and majoring on Business Sports Management. Also mention @CoachWeisse and the rest of the coaching staff for believing in me!! pic.twitter.com/ByYtdyyHvg
