Warren Keel Reclasses and Signs with Radford

Warren Keel Jr., a 5'11" guard at Putnam Science Academy, inked with Radford men's basketball this week, and he gives the Highlanders a huge lift for their roster.

A slippery playmaker who reclassified as a member of the Class of 2025, Keel has built himself into a scorer and true leader. Now, he's ready to take it to that next level and play his game at the Division I level.

Keel's path to here has been one of resolve and development. He began his high school career at Lynn English, averaging more than 25 points per game, leading the state in scoring, and earning Greater Boston League MVP honors. He then went to Bradford Christian Academy and subsequently Putnam Science Academy, where he helped the team win a National Prep Championship.

In retrospect, Keel admits there were times he thought about giving up, but his determination kept him going. Discussing his choice of reclassifying, he said he was ready for a challenge on another scale—that high school was no longer challenging him—and a change of course was the step he needed to take.

Choosing a college, Keel sought the opinion of his family members. Together, they decided Radford was the best option, especially given the high level of interest shown by the program. "Radford just wanted me more than the others," he said, reaffirming that the Highlanders' enthusiasm for him made it easy. Radford, which went 20–13 last season under new head coach Zach Chu, is in a new era—and Keel can't wait to ride with it.

In the future, his dreams are as clear as the day: he wants a conference championship and to play March Madness. Keel is grateful to his family and fans, notably his longtime advisor Coach Vin, in helping him reach this milestone. His advice for young players is to the point but reflective of his own journey: "Work hard and don't quit. Problems will pop up, but the key is how you respond."

Keel's timing could not be any more perfect for Radford. Anticipating a young roster and establishing an incoming culture, the program is seeking those who are gritty, possess character, and are leaders. On the court, Keel's conduct in running an offense, setting up his teammates, and playing with an unrelenting ferocity aligns well with the Highlanders' vision.

But the thing that truly sets him apart is his toughness. Keel has repeatedly shown that he can handle adversity, take on challenges, and come out better for it. That's the kind of mentality that Radford is looking to build. And if history is any indication, Keel is set to infuse energy, leadership and a winning mentality into the Highlanders as they look to rise to the top of the Big South.
