VA’s Funtarov D1 Bound
Vermont Academy’s George Funtarov became the second New England prep product of the weekend to commit to a school in California after pledging to UC Davis following his official visit.
He becomes the second player to commit to UC Davis this year, joining point guard Brynton Lemar, who signed in the early signing period.
Funtarov was one of several players to come to New England from Missouri this year (joining the likes of Travis Jorgenson and Tory Miller among others), where he ran with KC Run GMC on the grassroots circuit.
Funtarov is a mismatch four-man who might be best known for his ability to stretch opposing defenses to the three-point line but also has the hands, feet, and poise to operate on the block.
That versatility made him a steady contributor along Vermont's frontline this year as they made another run to the post-season in class AA of the NEPSAC.
Funtarov joins Rich Williams (Manhattan) and Daquein McNeil (Minnesota) to become the third player from this year’s Vermont Academy team to commit to a division I school.
