Tyler Betsey Commits to Cincinnati
On Friday, St. Thomas More/NY Rens 2024 6’8” forward Tyler Betsey made his college commitment, as he announced live on 247Sports with Adam Finkelstein that his final decision was the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Betsey is ranked the number one prospect overall in Connecticut and in New England as a whole on our class of 2024 rankings.
Our scouts noted from early on that he is an excellent three-point shooter, especially off the catch, and this is coupled with a deadly mid-range pull-up game that he uses when attacking closeouts.
Before transferring into the world of prep basketball, Betsey was already known as an elite player, competing in Connecticut’s CIAC for Windsor High School. Following his sophomore season, he was named to the 2022 CIAC All-State First Team.
Though he had already made a bit of a name for himself, he jumped more onto the radar before last season, as he had a breakout summer with NY Rens on the Nike EYBL Circuit, earning numerous standout recognitions and eclipsing the top 100 on the 247Sports national rankings.
That same summer, Betsey transferred from Windsor HS to St. Thomas More, where he would begin competing in the NEPSAC Class-AAA conference.
He had a standout season, earning All-NEPSAC Class-AAA First Team honors and was named 2023 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year for his performance throughout the season, during which he averaged 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.
Arguably his most competitive play came this past spring following the end of the school season. Betsey averaged 12 points and 3 rebounds for NY Rens on the Nike EYBL Circuit throughout 16 total contests, also shooting 35% from 3-point range. He earned Top Performer honors for 3 of the 4 regular sessions and the Peach Jam.
He earned countless high major offers, but he ultimately chose the Big 12 conference newcomer, Cincinnati. We look forward to seeing Tyler Betsey compete at the highest level of collegiate hoops.
