Thompson Taking Talents to St. Bonaventure in 2023

Putnam Science Academy wing Duane Thompson announced his commitment Sunday night to St. Bonaventure. He will be competing for the Bonnies starting next season.

Thompson first came to PSA in the fall of 2022. He earned meaningful minutes off the bench on a squad that won the AAA Power 5 Conference and National Prep Championship Titles. The Mustangs finished with a perfect 38-0 record.

Despite battling injuries, Thompson played a more prominent role during the past season for PSA. He was a part of another memorable season for the Mustangs. They again won the AAA Power 5 Conference and National Prep Championship Titles.

Thompson spent time on the AAU circuit with both BABC and Team New England. With BABC, he impressed throughout April at both the Northeast Hoops Festival and Adidas 3SSB events. In eight 3SSB games, Thompson averaged 13.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per Synergy Sports Technology.

“Duane and I have been stuck to the hip for the last three years,” said TNE director Isaiah Davis. “I watched him go from being a big fish at his local high school to having to sit on the bench on a loaded PSA National Championship team. Fast forward to this season, he kills during the playoffs and helps his team get another National Championship.”

“Duane is like a little brother to me and every basketball decision we have made has been with our own family circle. The Bonnies commitment makes a ton of sense. Their system fits his high-octane offense and tenacious defense. Coach Schmidt and staff are EXACTLY what Duane needs to thrive both on and off the court.”

“What a great day for Duane Thompson,” said PSA head coach Tom Espinosa. “He has such a huge upside being 6’8 and so versatile. It is an absolute loss for Putnam Science and a huge gain for Saint Bonaventure.”

“Just want to wish Duane the best moving forward, and could not thank him enough for the past two years and what he has done to help our program. 77 wins, only three losses, and two National Championships. Thank you Duane Thompson!”

Thompson becomes the sixth member of PSA’s 2023 class who will be playing college basketball at a Division One school next season.
