Suffield Duo Comes Off The Board

On Monday of last week Suffield Academy senior, Colin Pascoe, made a commitment to Connecticut College following receipt of his acceptance letter from the NESCAC School. The 6’5” forward is best know for his defensive presence and ability to attack in the open court. Throughout his Suffield career, Pascoe has been tasked with guarding all five positions at times.

“Colin is one of the best defensive players I have been lucky enough to coach. He is very athletic, and a smart player. He always puts himself in positions to be successful on the defensive end of the court,” commented Jeff Depelteau, Pascoe’s coach at Suffield Academy.

“I think Colin’s offensive ability is a bit underrated,” Depelteau added.  “When he arrived at Suffield, he could score in transition, and in the flow of an offense, but he has done a lot of work expanding his offensive repertoire, to the point he now is scoring the ball consistently in one on one situations.”

The combination of Pascoe’s athleticism, defensive ability, and expanded offensive skill set should certainly allow him to be an impact player right away for the Camels. This season, Pascoe is averaging 12.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg, and 2 spg for Suffield.

Here's a look back at Pascoe talking about his game and recruitment at last June's New England Elite 75 Showcase:

Just three days after Pascoe made his choice, his teammate and fellow senior captain, Mack Montague, made a commitment to the University of Rochester after receiving his early decision acceptance letter. The Westport native was one of the most improved players in the area over the course of his career at Suffield, and became highly sought after a wide range of schools including NYU, Wesleyan, Hamilton, Union, Middlebury, and Columbia.

Montague, a 6’4” guard, was primarily known as a spot up shooter early on in his career, but worked to really expand on his offensive abilities. Now, it is safe to say Montague can do a little of everything on the offensive end of the court. The biggest difference in Montague’s transformation as a player might just be the physical changes. Montague spent a great deal of time working on adding muscle, and working on agility and quickness this off-season, which is very clear at first glance.

“Mack is a guy who worked extremely hard to improve his game, and his body,” Depelteau said.  “He has improved his game to become a guy who can score from all over, but also run the team if we need him to. In addition, he has worked to become a much better athlete, which shows in every aspect of his game. He is able to do things now that he just could not do four years ago when he arrived at Suffield, and it is testament to all the hard work that he has done.”

Montague is a perfect fit for the University of Rochester style, and should have the opportunity to make immediate impact with Rochester graduating All-American senior, and fellow Westport native John DiBartolomeo, following this season. He will join former Suffield Academy teammate, Nate Vernon, who has flourished in his first three seasons for the 7th ranked team in the nation. This season, Montague is averaging 15.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.6 apg, and 2.1 spg for Suffield.
