STM’s MacDonald Commits to Niagara

Nick MacDonald is heading home.

The St. Thomas More post-graduate made a commitment to Niagara and new head coach Patrick Beilein over the weekend.

He confirmed his decision via his twitter account.

MacDonald graduated from nearby Canisius High School last June and is part of a well-known basketball family in upstate New York.

His older brother, Matt MacDonald, is another former STM post-grad who went on to play and graduate from UPenn. Their father, Mike MacDonald, is the head coach at Daemen College and was an assistant to John Beilein prior to taking over as the program's head coach from 1997 to 2006.

Nick played with Corey Graham Elite this morning and helped them to a championship at the Las Vegas Fab 48.

A well-known shot-maker who plays with the high IQ you would expect from a coach's son, MacDonald improved his body and athleticism this year while reportedly growing another inch or two.

"It definitely was huge," MacDonald told GNN Sports. "... Taking that extra year before college, I got to play against some really high-level competition, sometimes where other teams, their whole starting lineup was not just D-1 guys, but high-major guys."

MacDonald becomes the sixth member of this year's team to earn a full athletic scholarship at the division I level.
