Stauskas Picks Michigan
Canadian native Nikolas Stauskas made a big impact in his first season at St. Mark's, proving himself to be one of the top juniors in New England and scoring a good deal of high-major recruitment in the process.
On Saturday, Stauskas committed to one of those high-major programs, making a verbal commitment to Michigan and head coach John Beilein.
"Yessir! YOUR BOY IS GOING TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE IN 2012!!" Stauskas wrote on his facebook page. "Thank you to all my friends and family for supporting me through the process. Making my dreams come true on[e] step at a time. GO BLUE!"
His commitment comes on the heels of a tremendous run by Michigan to close their season, coming within just two points of upsetting Duke and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament last weekend.
A six-foot-four shooter who proved himself to be anything but one dimensional this year, Stauskas is a deceptively good creator and passer with surprising bounce inside the paint. He figures to be a perfect fit in Beilein's system, which puts a premium on highly skilled players who can shoot the ball.
