State Champions Crowned in Maine
Four state champions were crowned in the state of Maine over the weekend with Hampden Academy taking the top prize by knocking off Portland 70-50 Saturday night at the Augusta Civic Center, scoring some retribution after falling to Portland in last year’s state final.

A night earlier, at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Cape Elizabeth closed the game with a 7-0 run with under a minute to play and knocked off top seed Medomak with a buzzer beating lay-up from Ethan Murphy.
Murphy led the way with a team high 13 points while Jack O’Rourke added 11. Nicholas DePatsy scored a team high 14 for Medomak, who missed 11 straight shots in the 4th quarter.
Top seed Calais knocked off Dirigo in the Class C final on Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor while Forest Hills defeated Fort Fairfield for the Class D championship earlier in the day.
