South Kent Trio Earns Scholarships
A trio of players from the South Kent School have accepted full athletic scholarships within the last week. Jordan Gainey signed with USC Upstate. Osei Price committed to Oakland. Jake Hlywiak committed to Adelphi.
All three are high-level shooters of the basketball that helped the Cardinals to a season that consisted of only two losses this year.
Gainey is a two-way player who is as talented on the defensive end of the floor as he is the offensive end, where he shot 40% from behind the arc. He’s a coach’s son, his father Justin is an assistant coach at Tennessee, and still has untapped potential as he continues to fill-out his frame and grow into his body.
"USC Upstate is gaining a great young man of high character and great leadership skills both on and off the court. I have no doubt that he will be able to step onto the court and contribute right away at USC Upstate," South Kent Associate Athletic Director and head basketball coach Raphael Chillious said.
Below are some recent highlights of his game from the Be Seen Tour's stop at South Kent.

Price came to South Kent from the Miami area and was arguably the team’s most consistent player this year as a post-graduate. Another talented shot-maker, Price also evolved athletically and expanded his floor game this year to become a more complete scoring threat. He’s also a very accomplished student in the classroom.
"Osei is like a swiss-army knife. He's extremely versatile and you feel comfortable putting him in almost any positional on the court knowing that he's going to do well. He has one of the highest basketball I.Q.'s of any player I've coached," Chillious said.
Below are highlights from his post-grad season.
Hlywiak came to South Kent from Valencia, California and made an immediate impact this year. He’s 6-foot-4 with a strong body, knockdown shooting stroke, and very hard-working approach to the game. He should be more than capable of playing, both immediate minutes and multiple positions, at Adelphi and in the Northeast-10 Conference.
"Jake is one of the most focused, disciplined, hard-working shooters who has developed an all-around ability to score in crafty ways," Chillious said.
