South Kent Forward Earns Scholarship
South Kent post-graduate forward Jules de Courtenay has accepted a full athletic scholarship to St. Thomas Aquinas College and will be attending school immediately according to South Kent head coach Kelvin Jefferson.
The six-foot-seven forward arrived at South Kent this fall from his home country of Australia and established himself as an important part of the Cardinals’ rotation, but would have potentially risked losing NCAA eligibility had he played beyond the first semester due to the December graduation time last year in Australia.
St. Thomas Aquinas is a division II school in Sparkhill, New York competing in the East Coast Conference along with the likes of Dowling, Molloy, LIU Post, Bridgeport, and others.
De Courtenay will provide them with a skilled and versatile forward who should have an easy transition to the college level thanks to his vast international experiences. He shoots the ball with range from the perimeter, has a reliable baby hook on the block, knows how to cut and screen, and can consequently be utilized in a variety of ways offensively.
De Courtenay is also an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA.
South Kent is currently off to one of their best starts in recent years, with a 13-2 record to date including wins over Northfield Mount Hermon, St. Thomas More, Believe Prep, and several others.
