Siena Scores with Silas
It has been a great week for first year Siena head coach Mitch Buonaguro.
On Tuesday, Siena received a verbal commitment from Lionel Gomis, a six-foot-nine 220-pound big man from Senegal by way of Blair Academy.
Less than 48 hours later and the Saints landed another talented frontcourt prospect, this time Holderness big man Imoh Silas.
Silas has a similar build and background to Gomis, standing six-feet-eight inches off the ground, weighing in at 210-pounds, and coming to Holderness from Nigeria.
Together, the duo promises to form one of the more potent one-two punches in the MAAC.
Silas made an immediate impact when he first arrived in New England, leading Holderness to an upset win over Lawrence Academy and a run to the finals of the NEPSAC tournament.
That summer Silas would score his breakout performance on the national level, running with Expressions Elite on the grassroots circuit and scoring a high-major scholarship offer from Virginia Tech in the process.
A game changer on the defensive end of the floor, Silas is a physical specimen who excels defending the ball on the block, cleaning the defensive glass, and blocking shots from the weakside of the floor. Offensively, Silas' game has progressed at a rapid rate.
At Siena, he promises to be an immediate contributor in his freshman season and someone who projects to have a very succesful four year career in the MAAC.
