Sacred Heart Lands another Local Talent

Nick Greenbacker, a 6’9” center from East Catholic High School in Manchester, Connecticut, has ended his recruitment by announcing his plan to attend Sacred Heart University beginning in the fall of 2008.

“I have a real good relationship with Coach Latina,” said Greenbacker.  “He and [East Catholic Head] Coach Reilly are close so it was easy for us to get to know each other.”

Greenbacker becomes the third Connecticut product to offer the Pioneers a verbal commitment this summer.  He joins his Connecticut Basketball Club teammate Stanford Dulaire, who committed earlier this week, along with Steve Zazuri from Masuk High School.  Greenbacker and Dulaire will also reunite with two of their former CBC teammates in Chauncey Hardy and Ryan Litke who will both be sophomores this year.

“The fact that Chauncey and Ryan are up there was a big deal to me,” said Greenbacker “and then when Stan committed that was icing on the cake”.

Although Greenbacker had offers from Central Connecticut and New Jersey Institute of Technology, along with strong interest from Yale, Harvard, and Columbia, Sacred Heart had been on him the longest.

“Sacred Heart had made me a priority, and it feels good to be going someplace where I know I am really wanted,” he said.

At Sacred Heart Greenbacker will offer an interior presence for a team that currently holds the majority of its firepower on the perimeter.  The lefty is a tough player with a good understanding of the game who should be able to compete for minutes immediately upon his arrival on campus.
