Rogers Heading Back Home

Stevie Rogers, a post-graduate point guard from Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut, made a verbal commitment to attend Texas State University earlier this week.

Rogers is a native of Houston, Texas who previously starred at Strake Jesuit College Prep, where he teamed with current Penn State freshman Tim Frazier and Notre Dame freshman Joey Brooks to lead the team to a 37-1 record along with the school’s first trip to the UIL Class 5A state tournament.

Early in his high school career Rogers was a top 100 ranked player in the national class of 2009 before going down with back to back ACL injuries and missing his entire junior season.  He committed to Rice University in November of his senior season and averaged over 13 points and 3 assists last year despite still recuperating from the injury.

The five-foot-eleven point guard opted for a post-grad year in order to get his knee back to 100% and then opted to re-open his recruitment in October.

Rogers averaged over 17 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals this season for Choate, earning All Western New England first team honors in the process and leading the team back to the post-season for the second consecutive year.

He received interest from Columbia, Texas Arlington, Wichita State, and Fordham among others before opting to return home to play for Texas State in the Southland Conference.

A creative point guard who is capable of consistently creating for himself and others, Rogers has a great feel for the game and court vision and is likely at his best when operating off a ball screen.

He joins another local prep product in Kimball Union Academy’s seven-foot center David Hahn in Texas State’s incoming recruiting class.
