Rivera Patriot League Bound

Putnam Science Academy and New York Jayhawks power forward Josh Rivera announced his commitment earlier this week to Lafayette College of the Patriot League.

Rivera is native of North Jersey who attended St. Thomas Aquinas before electing to do a post-graduate year at PSA. He played a key role in STA making the 2021 Greater Middlesex Conference Final, leading the team in scoring and rebounding.

While Rivera has battled injuries since last summer, he was a part of an elite PSA team during his PG year that won both the Power 5 AAA Conference and National Prep Championship while completing an undefeated season. He competed on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with the Jayhawks.
“Josh grew a lot through his PG year,” said PSA head coach Tom Espinosa. “He had to battle a lot of ups and downs and injuries. He will be well prepared for college after what he went through at Putnam.”

“I look forward to seeing him succeed at the next level. Josh’s build and athleticism are going to be a problem in the Patriot League for years to come.”

He becomes the sixth member from PSA’s 2022 class to finalize their college plans, while also being the sixth to commit to a Division One program.
