Rising Senior Spotlight - Carter Meshanic

Kingswood-Oxford rising senior Carter Meshanic had one goal for this summer - to prove he was a scholarship level player.

It would be the culmination for what has already been a story of rapid, yet consistent, development over the years as he's grown and evolved into an ultra-versatile and multi-positional player with an efficient and productive floor game.

Equally impressive in the classroom, Meshanic has already been targetted by a variety of top academic D3 schools, but has his sights set on playing at the highest level possible.

Personal Statement

I am a tough, coachable combo guard who prides myself on my basketball IQ and my intense work ethic. I have always been able to get to the rim and finish, and after working on my body these past few months I am stronger and more athletic than ever. Although some people see me as only a slasher, I can score from all three levels. When running the offense, I make the right passes rather than the flashy ones. Because of my toughness and length, I am a pesky on ball defender, and I communicate well while in help defense. I am confident guarding positions 1-4 as I have been playing against bigger opponents all of my life.

Recommendations

"Carter is a slashing wing that gets to the basket easily and can finish with both hands. He has ownership of an unconventional scoring talent, scoring off awkward euro footing, and also off two feet. He excels in the open floor and makes great decisions with the ball. He also is a tremendous rebounder and as a guard/forward he has had four two-plus rebounding games. He is recently made ALL NEPSAC last season...Both Meshanics will be co-captains this upcoming season. They are mature beyond their years when it comes to conditioning, nutrition, and utilizing both the basketball court and weightroom. Carter and Hunter are immediate impact players on the court and will excel as locker room leaders as well for any program.  "

"Floor general mentality. Guards every position on the floor even when under matched from a size perspective. Blossoming athleticism that allows him to play above the rim. Toughest kid on the floor (outside of his brother) at all times. Most important this kid is a pure breed winner. Without question an under the radar LM prospect."

Scout's Take

"Fundamentally sound isn't a term that gets thrown around much anymore, but I think it's really appropriate in this case. From his footwork to the way he moves without the ball, to his use of both hands, Carter Meshanic is just highly advanced in a lot of the foundational parts of the game that too many kids seem to skip over. I think his two other defining characteristics at this point are his versatility and learning curve. He's someone who can score and operate from different spots on the floor, and is a match-up problem because of it. He's also vastly improved as he's evolved from someone who was a forward, or maybe even undersized big, when I first saw him to now a multi-positional player who impacts the game and just produces very consistently."
