RI Elite Duo off the Board
The Rhode Island Elite and Rocky Hill School duo of Jay-Juan Hayes and Steven Lora, who have thrived together in recent years during both the school and grassroots seasons, recently ended their recruitments with commitments to Kenne State and Trinity College respectively.
Hayes averaged 14 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and just under 4 steals per game this year for Rocky Hill and was named First-Team All-State while graduating with a GPA of 3.4.
Lora was also named First-Team All-State after averaging 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
The duo began their career together at Saint Raphael, where they went to a RIIL state final, before transferring to Rocky Hill and then leading that program to consecutive NEPSAC finals.
They were perhaps even more instrumental in helping to establish Rhode Island Elite as a prominent program in New England with a number of deep runs, including the 2018 Northeast Hoops Festival championship.
"Both are career winners and two of the hardest workers I will probably ever coach," said RI Elite head coach Nick Light. "I expect them both to be immediate impact players at their respective schools and continue to compete for championships."
