Rhode Island Scores with Terrell

Brewster Academy and Expressions Elite guard Jared Terrell committed to the University of Rhode Island late Friday morning, giving Rams’ head coach Danny Hurley a commitment from the highest ranked available prospect in the country.

Terrell initially signed with Oklahoma State during the early signing period but later received a full release this spring before re-opening his recruitment.

The six-foot-three shooting guard told the New England Recruiting Report that he believed Rhode Island provided him with the best chance to play in the NCAA tournament and that his relationship with Hurley was also a major reason behind his decision.

The opportunity to play immediate minutes, and potentially content for a spot in the team’s starting line-up, were also likely contributing factors for Terrell.

One of the top 100 ranked prospects in the country, Terrell has had a long and decorated career on both the prep school and grassroots circuits.

He began his career at his hometown Weymouth High School in Massachusetts before transferring into the prep ranks and repeating his sophomore year.  He spent the last two seasons at Brewster Academy, where his career culminated with an MVP performance at the National Prep Championship.

Terrell joins Notre Dame Prep guard Jarvis Garrett to form one of the best incoming backcourts in the Atlantic 10.  Together, they form the foundation for the second consecutive highly rated recruiting class for Hurley, following up on the tandem of E.C. Matthews and Hassan Martin, both of whom earned All Rookie honors in the conference this season.
