Raysean Johnson Commits to Fairleigh Dickinson

This past weekend, Canterbury/NY Finest 2024 6’1” point guard Raysean Johnson committed to Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) for the 2024-25 season, which will follow his post-grad year at Canterbury this year.

He comes from Valley Central HS outside of Newburgh, NY, where he scored his 1000th career point last season as a senior, despite having missed his junior year to injury.

Johnson jumped onto our radar at NERR back in 2021 at Super 16. Playing up on Varsity, he put on a shooting barrage finishing with 37 points.

He actually put himself back on the map during the summer before last year, scoring over 20 points in multiple contests for NY Finest at the Big Shots-Spooky Nook showcase.

Last year, Valley Central won the Section 9 Orange County II League regular season title, finishing at #1 in the standings with a 5-1 conference record. Johnson was named Section 9 BCANY Class AA Player of the Year for his performance throughout the season.

“Raysean does everything right about being a student-athlete—he puts winning and competing above all else,” said Canterbury Head Coach Brian Fruscio in speaking with NERR.

“He has worked to become a positive leader in our Canterbury Community in his first couple weeks,” he continued. “We are fortunate to have Raysean as part of our community.”

It will be interesting to follow his prep year before heading to compete in the NEC at the Division I level for Jack Castleberry and the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights.
