Raines headed south to D1

Notre Dame West Haven and NE6 swingman Connor Raines made a verbal commitment to Texas Rio Grande Valley on Friday while on their campus for his unofficial visit.

UT Rio Grande Valley is a division I school competing in the Western Athletic Conference and was one of four division I schools to offer Raines a full scholarship.

While his other three offers came from local schools in the America East, NEC, and MAAC, the Connecticut native has family in the Dallas area and identified with UTRGV's up-tempo system on both ends of the floor.

“I was thinking about doing it (committing) before (the visit),” Raines told Joe Morelli of the New Haven Register. “But I wanted to see the campus, and the visit made me love it even more. The coaching staff and players made me feel comfortable and feel like it was home.”

Raines is a big wing at 6-foof-6 and high level athlete who should flourish in an up-tempo style of play.

Notre Dame West Haven head coach Jason Shea tweeted, "Connor’s loyalty, passion, and talent have had a tremendous impact on @NDWHAthletics basketball. Looking forward to a great senior year!"

Below are highlights of Raines' junior season.
