Prospects Come Out for UConn/Georgetown Game

If you were watching the UConn/Georgetown match-up on ESPN2 last night you might have noticed some familiar faces when the cameras faded back to show some of the seats behind the UConn bench as the Huskies played host to many of New England’s top prospects. 

Alex Oriakhi and Jamal Coombs were front and center, having already committed to and signed with the Huskies in the fall.  But the talented duo brought some friends including their junior teammate Gerard Coleman, who has the Huskies on his short list along with Louisville, Providence, Virginia, and Kansas.  Freshman sensation Nerlins Noel, who is bound to be a prospect for the highest levels as well, was also sitting in the front row.  

A few rows over was Andre Drummond, the 6’9” sophomore center from Capitol Prep in Hartford.  Despite being just 15 years old, Drummond has generated recruiting interest from high major schools up and down the east coast…including both Connecticut and Georgetown in addition to places like West Virginia, Florida, Rutgers, and Providence.  

But not all the prospects in the XL Center where rooting for the Huskies.  Georgetown pledge Nate Lubick was on hand to see his future team come away with an impressive victory.  To his right was Austin Carroll, who has recently seen his stock go to new levels with multiple 30 point performances as well as the announcement that he will do a post-graduate year and join the class of 2010. 

A few rows up where the Murphy brothers.  Oldest brother Erik Murphy is already pledged to Florida and so was just on hand to take in a good game, but freshman Alex Murphy is another young player who will be coveted by high major programs across the country, especially those like Georgetown who put a premium on guys with high skill levels and I.Q.’s. 

There were some non-New Englanders on hand as well, most notably New York’s top 100 prospect Tobias Harris. 

All in all with Oriakhi, Coombs, Erik & Alex Murphy, Coleman, Lubick, Drummond, Carroll, Noel and others on hand it really was like a who’s who of New England’s top prospects.
