Prep Profiles 2022-23 Season: Busche Academy

Antonio Anderson begins his first year as head coach at Busche after leading the program at Springfield Commonwealth last season. He will be looking to help them become an immediate player in the AAA Power 5 Conference.

3 Things You Need to Know About This Year’s Team

1. Palmer brings a two-way impact

2023 forward Devere Palmer is a constant contributor at both ends. The strong-bodied forward rebounds, is switchable, and has shown strides as a shooter. Palmer should be able to fit into lineups whether Coach Anderson goes big or small.

2. Hamilton-Brown looks to stand out in the prep ranks

After a standout career at Malden Catholic, Jahmari Hamilton-Brown made the move to Busche. The 2023 forward’s size, explosiveness, and transition playmaking ability have had him on our radar for some time now. It will be interesting to watch Hamilton-Brown against an elevated level of competition.

3. Houston is their long-range sharpshooter

Kyle Houston is at Busche after playing high school ball last season in Tennessee. He is the type of shooter who can get hot at a moment's notice and hit three-pointers in bunches. Houston should consistently open up the floor for others

3 Questions Heading into the Season

1. Could Penubothula emerge?

Daniel Penubothula is an intriguing 2023 prospect. The 6’8 big man can make open standstill treys, rebound his area, and even provide some weak side rim protection. Penubothula’s game could attract more attention if he can translate it into regular production against Busche’s difficult schedule.

2. Can Barry make his mark at this level?

After leading St. Mary’s to an MIAA Division Three State Title last season, Ali Barry decided to test himself in the AAA Power 5 Conference. His three-point shooting, creation for others, and quickness defensively all were impressive at St. Mary’s. If that can translate to his new team, Busche will certainly be reaping its benefits.

3. How will Kendrick and Malvey factor into the rotation?

Two other talented 2023 guards on this squad are Domenic Malvey and Brandon Kendrick. Malvey differentiates himself with his toughness whereas Kendrick is more dynamic as a lead ball handler. It will be something to follow with which situations Coach Anderson deems one or the other is more useful.
