One on One with Mike Marra

NERR:  Mike what are initial thoughts on being here at Northfield Mount Hermon?

Mike Marra:  I really like it here.  The level of competition that we get on a daily basis makes it a lot of fun.  The school work is tough, but the basketball is great.

NERR:  Give us an idea of what your daily routine has been like so far.

Mike Marra:  Well we haven’t started practice yet so I’m sure it will change.  But right now we usually get a lift in and then play.  So it has been a lot of work in the weight room and on the court.

NERR:  What are your expectations for your team this year?

Mike Marra:  I think we’re going to be pretty good.  We have a well rounded team so I think we’ll definitely win some games.

NERR:  Before this season you played at Smithfield High School in Rhode Island.  Have you watched a lot of prep school games in the past?

Mike Marra:  I’ve seen a couple of games but not too many.

NERR:  What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?

Mike Marra:  I’m hoping to show people that I have a well rounded game.  A lot of people consider me a shooter but I’m working on my handle and ability to attack the rim and I’m hoping the college coaches will see that.

NERR:  What schools are you hearing from the most right now?

Mike Marra:  Well I have offers from PC (Providence College), URI, and UMass.  I’m hearing a good amount from Louisville and a little bit from Florida.  Plus Ohio State has talked to Coach Carroll a few times.

NERR:  What are you looking for in a school?

Mike Marra:  Well being here (Northfield Mount Hermon) for the next two years will help me decide if I want to go away from home or stay close by.  But I want to go someplace where I can play and I’m hoping that’s at the high major level.

Mike Marra is a 6’5” shooting guard who is repeating his junior season at Northfield Mount Hermon, a class “A” prep school in the NEPSAC.  He spent the previous three seasons at Smithfield High School in his hometown of Smithfield, Rhode Island.
