New Hampshire 2012 Rankings Announced

When you make a mistake the honorable thing to do is admit when you’re wrong…and we will go on record as saying we were sleeping on Georges Niang at the beginning of the year. 

The six-foot-seven forward has put up some major numbers this season and emerged as a more than capable Robin to Gerard Coleman’s Batman.  Niang has a throwback low post game, consistent three-point range on his jumper, and also rebounds the ball in high volume. 

If we were ranking the best high school players right now he would be number one without question, but Niang comes in at two on this list only because of the arrival of Brewster big man Richard Peters who is already committed to Oklahoma. 

The Canadian native is still very raw but his long-term potential is undeniable with a ton of tools including a great frame, soft touch, and solid footwork, not to mention the fact that he’s left handed. 

Also moving up a spot is St. Paul’s Tarik Smith.  The New York native continues to put up big numbers in his sophomore season both scoring and distributing the basketball and earns a spot in the top three by virtue of his consistent production. 

Javon Williams drops to number four on our list and this was a tough call because we still believe that Williams has all the tools and skills to develop into a high level prospect and while he’s not putting up staggering numbers right now at Nashua North he’s one of our early picks for possible breakout performers of the spring when he returns to the AAU circuit. 

Rounding out the top five is Showly Nicholson, the quick lead guard for Phillips Exeter.  By the time his career comes to an end he’ll have an incredible level of experience, having played rotation minutes in Class A of the NEPSAC for four seasons.  Combine that with play making ability on both ends of the floor and he’s an intriguing prospect.
