New England Mourns the Loss of Joey Glynn

The New England basketball community is mourning the sudden an unexpected loss of Bentley freshman and former Cardinal Spellman High School and Middlesex Magic star, Joey Glynn.

Glynn was playing with a Middlesex Magic team last night at a men’s league game at Saltonstall Park in Watertown, when he collapsed on the court.  He was pronounced dead later that night at Mount Auburn Hospital.

Glynn was just 19 years old.

As news began to spread late Monday night over the internet, teammates and friends alike took to twitter to express their disbelief and prayers.

Middlesex Magic head coach Michael Crotty Jr, who previously coached Glynn during AAU and was playing in Monday night’s game, likely summed it up best:

“He’s the best, just the best kid you could ever coach,” Crotty told Dan Venture of the Boston Herald.  “If you have a son, that’s the type of son you want. If you have a daughter, (Joey) is the type of kid you want her coming (home) with — he’s just that good a kid.”
