Ndayishimiye Commits to Vermont
The University of Vermont continues to give local, in-state talent the opportunity to show they belong at the D1 level.
Rice Memorial senior guard Michel Ndayishimiye is the latest recipient of such an opportunity.
Ndayishimiye will join the Catamounts next year as a recruited walk-on and is likely to redshirt.
The path is almost identifical to what UVM did with Ben Shungu years ago. Shungu was widely considered one of the best players in the state but didn't have division I recruitment at the time. He sat out the 2016-17 season before seeing action in 22 games a year later. He's gone on to be a full-time starter and co-captain for the team.
Ndayishimiye has been one of the most decorated players in the state in recent years. He's led Rice to a pair of state championships and scored over 1500 career points. He averaged nearly 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game last year as a junior, earning Burlington Free Press' "Mr. Basketball" honors in the process.
He upped those averages to 29.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.8 assists during a shortened senior season.
Ndayishimiye has played his travel basketball from Vermont Elite.
