Mike Marra Offered by Louisville

Mike Marra first gained the attention of the coaching staff from Louisville when he exploded for a 40 point performance during a game at the Reebok Summer Classic East in July.  By the time the summer had ended Marra had scholarship offers from the likes of Providence College, UMass, URI, and George Washington to name a few.

Now after a month of dominating the competition at Northfield Mount Hermon, Marra’s latest offer has come from Rick Pitino and the University of Louisville.  Pitino is expected to be in the NMH gym later this week as are coaches from West Virginia and Notre Dame.

“His recruiting stock is only going to go up,” said NMH Head Coach John Carroll.  “He has legitimate NBA range and with the three-point line moving back he is going to become a hot commodity.”

Marra’s ability to make shots from the perimeter has never been in question.  But as of late it has been the development of the rest of his game that has been so impressive.

“His shooting percentage has gone way up because his shot selection has improved dramatically,” Carroll says.  “He’s surrounded by guys who can all play, which allows him to pick his spots and consequently be more efficient…Plus he has gotten much stronger because he is on a lifting program for the first time in his life.”

When you put it all together you have a player who is already very good…and getting better all the time.  And once the word gets out that Rick Pitino thinks he is good enough for Louisville, you can bet lots of other high major programs will follow up with scholarship offers of their own.
