McKnight Leaving New England

The CIAC took their latest blow late last week when they lost another top rising senior in the state with Quincy McKnight’s decision to transfer from St. Joseph’s to the Phelps School in Pennsylvania.

McKnight joins former Windsor swingman Jared Wilson-Frame, who announced he was heading to Believe Prep in South Carolina earlier this month.

Like Wilson-Frame, McKnight is expected to repeat his junior year and reclassify into the class of 2015.  He’ll join his AAU teammate with Team Scan, ESPN 100 small forward Terry Larrier, who is a rising senior at Phelps.

The move will allow McKnight one more opportunity to play on the grassroots circuit after missing the recent July evaluation period due to injury.

McKnight’s three seasons at St. Joe’s included a pair of state championships in his freshman and sophomore seasons.  He was widely considered to be one of the best returning players in the state association this year.

Losing local talent to the prep school ranks is hardly uncommon in New England, but McKnight and Wilson-Frame are the latest examples of local products, specifically from Connecticut, opting for prep school outside the region’s borders.

The former Northwest Catholic tandem of Kuran Iverson and Zach Lewis made headlines with their decision to attend Fishburne Military Academy in Virginia last season.  Iverson ended up committing to Memphis, while Lewis signed with Canisius.
