Martin Makes the Call

Robert Martin Jr. 2016

Tilton School senior forward Robert Martin Jr. made a verbal commitment to Rice University while on the school's Houston campus for his official visit.

Martin has been one of the biggest stock-risers in New England over the first six weeks of the prep school season as he opened his senior year with a 24 point, 14 rebound performance at the National Prep Showcase and hasn't looked back since.

A few weeks later he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the St. Andrew's Holiday Classic after scoring 27 and 29 poitns in the Rams' two games heading into the holiday break. It's been more of the same in the new year as his 25 points led Tilton to a win over Redemption Christian last week before scoring a team high 23 in a win over AA rival Cushing over the weekend.

A longtime product of the BABC and three-year EYBL veteran, Martin played the role of a defensive stopper and glue guy coming up the ranks on both the prep school and Nike circuits, but has obviously proven his ability to take on a bigger offensive role this season.

With Martin's offense now catching up to his defense, his recruitment has escalated accordingly. Rice was just one of the schools to extend a new offer in recent months and now the Massachusetts native is heading to Conference USA.

Martin joins Bruce Brown (Miami), Kevin Marfo (George Washington), Patrick Fisher (Furman), Ikenna Ndugba (Bryant) and Tommy Mobley (Amherst) to become the sixth member of BABC's 2016 class to finalize his recruitment.
