Malik Adamson to Siena
Dexter Southfield & Middlesex Magic Class of 2027 point guard Malik Adamson made his commitment to Siena official at the start of July.
A native of Dorchester, Adamson began his high school career at Holland Tech (Burke) while playing his AAU ball with Team New England.
From there, Malik would reclassify and transfer to Dexter Southfield ahead of the 2024-25 school year.
At Dexter, Malik immediately stepped into a lead role from the moment he suited up for the team. In two seasons, the Dorchester native has been a focal piece to Matt Droney’s team as they look to make noise once again this winter.
Coach Droney had nothing but great things to say about his point guard: “Malik has an infectious personality and work ethic that have positively affected our team’s culture for two-plus years at Dexter.
He continued, “His passion, ferocity, and desire to win elevate the level of any team he plays on. Malik has improved tremendously in his time at Dexter, and I have full confidence he will continue to blossom under Nevada Smith and his staff. The Siena community is getting a great person and great player that will help them continue their tradition of sustained excellence.”
In his two years at Dexter, Adamson has helped the squad make two consecutive appearances in the Class A playoffs. That came after a Final Four with Burke before his transfer as well.
In grassroots play this spring/summer, Adamson directed traffic for a Middlesex Magic team that advanced to the Elite Eight at the UAA finals.
When asked about his time with Middlesex and how they prepared him going forward Malik replied, “Once I got to Middlesex, it felt like another family, and Coach Crotty and Coach G helped a lot with making it feel that way. I would also say they helped me slow the game down, make great reads, become a more vocal leader than I already was, and gain more confidence in my shot. Middlesex definitely prepares you for college offensively and defensively, and the way Coach Crotty coaches will help you get better. He will not sugarcoat anything, and you just have to know he wants the best from you; he wants to win no matter what.”
Malik offers a high-intensity play style as a smaller point guard that makes a big impact. He is very active on the boards and can truly push the ball in transition, getting downhill at will. His court vision stands out as well, as he’s able to find open teammates, creating scoring opportunities for the team.
He draws major attention, which he can navigate by himself to create his own looks, but also move the ball effectively, setting others up for clean shots. His hustle on defense shows with his active hands putting pressure on the opposing offense no matter the position.
Malik has also put in the work to stretch the floor with his shooting. He is able to play off the catch or create his own shot on the outside. Adding this level to his game only benefits his ability to get to the rim and finish through contact.
A big part of Malik’s commitment was to Nevada Smith, the Head Coach at Siena. Coach Smith was there for Malik all along, attending NEPSAC and AAU games, and if not always checking in, showing major interest. Siena felt like home on Malik’s first unofficial visit, building a strong connection on and off the court with the entire staff: “The coaching staff made it feel like home, laughing and joking with me, while also showing how invested they were in my development on and off the floor,” said Adamson.
When asked about his commitment, Adamson also had this to say. “I would like to thank God first for helping me battle through adversity and making it possible for me to be in the position I'm in now. My mom, because she’s my biggest fan and she's always trying to help me get better mentally and physically. I would like to thank the coaches, including Coach Greg, Coach Zeek, Coach Droney, and Coach Crotty, for helping me along my journey, helping me perfect my craft and always pushing me towards higher goals and aspirations.”
Entering his Senior season at Dexter Southfield, Malik looks to continue to build off the previous two seasons and put the final touches on a successful high school career. His ability to play bigger than he is on the defensive end and general toughness will bode well at the college level in the newly named Metro Conference.
His ability to score at different levels on the offensive end and provide viable defense and rebounding on the other will help him excel at the next level. Siena is getting a winner in Adamson.
