Local Products Shine at Derby Classic

Nate Lubick continues to add to his list of post-season awards and accolades as he was selected for last weekend’s Derby Classic, a national all-star game presented by adidas which features many of the top players in the nation.

South Kent point guard Russell Smith was also selected to participate in the game.

Both New England prep products represented our region well as Lubick finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Smith had 12 points and 5 assists.

Other players in action included Gorgui Dieng, Justin Coleman, and Ray McCallum Jr. who picked up MVP honors with 25 points and four three-pointers.

6000 plus fans filled Louisville’s Freedom Hall to watch the all-star game while capacity crowds were also on hand for the dunk contest and three-point competition.

For Lubick this was the latest in a long line of honors that began with his second straight Gatorade Player of the Year award as well as being named a Parade All-American.
