Lee’s Lawal commits to VCU
Lee Academy big man Toibu Lawal announced his commitment to VCU over the weekend.
Lawal, a native of London, England came to New England this past fall to play for the Pandas. He adjusted well to the high level prep schedule that Lee Academy had, averaging 14.5 points, 11.4 rbounds, 3.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals.
“It’s very easy to look at Tobi and see all the natural skills, he has the size and athleticism coaches dream of. But he became a true basketball player because of the work he put in the gym,” said Lee Academy head coach Dan Haynes.
“He has no ego and focused on the fundamentals which has launched his game to a new level. He’s a perfect mix of physical skill, size, and work ethic to become something very special.”
“We are very happy Tobi committed to our program,” said VCU head coach Mike Rhoades. “He is a very versatile player with impressive size and athleticism. He fits our style tremendously.”
“We can’t wait for him to get on campus. He is a big man who loves the game and all the work. His motor and approach will be surely appreciated by Ram Nation.”
He is the second member of Lee Academy’s 2022 class to finalize their college plans, and first to commit to a Divison One program.
