Lee Academy’s Walters Heading to Santa Clara
Every year, there are steals to be found in northern New England for those who are willing to make the trip to Lee Academy.
On Thursday, Santa Clara became the latest example as they scored a commitment from Shaquille Walters, a 6-foot-5 guard from London, England.
Walters had visited Arizona State and Santa Clara in recent weeks but was also being courted by the likes of Pittsburgh, Dayton, USC and Ole Miss among others.
Arguably the best available guard in New England, Walters has good size, length, athleticism and wide-ranging physical tools with a solid foundation of skill in his game and plenty of defensive tools as well.
"Shaq has chosen Santa Clara because he thinks he has a chance to be an impact player right away," Lee Academy head coach Igor Vrzina told Adam Zagoria on Thursday.
First year head coach Herb Sendek, who previously ran programs at both Arizona State and N.C. State, has been tapping into his northeast roots to build a tremendous incoming class including Walters and Connecticut native Matt Turner, who is currently in his senior season at Blair Academy in New Jersey and also had high-major offers on the table prior to committing to Santa Clara.
