KUA Sniper Makes Pick

Kimball Union Academy senior guard Malcolm Brent made a verbal commitment to UMBC on Friday afternoon.

Brent is a Maryland native now in his second year in New England.  Now, he’ll have the best of both worlds for the next four years, returning to play his college basketball in his home state while also returning to New England several times per year while competing in the America East Conference.

Brent has run with Metro Boston on the AAU circuit in each of the last two summers, and emerged as one of the bigger stories of the most recent evaluation period after picking up his first division I scholarship offer from a high-major program, Ole Miss.

He has since gone on to earn other division I offers, both during the summer as well as in recent weeks since returning to KUA.  He took his first official visit to UMBC last weekend and committed five days after returning from that trip.

While Brent may be best known for his three-point shooting, his total floor game has improved significantly in the last year.  He’s more of a threat to create his own shot off the dribble, capable of pulling up in the mid-range area, and an outstanding rebounding guard.

With his commitment now out of the way, Brent returns to a KUA team that has their sites set firmly on a Class AA championship this season, after returning three starters from a team that advanced to last season’s semi-finals.
