Isaiah Chappell Commits to UC Davis

Earlier this week, California Stars/South Kent 2024 6’9” New Zealand 18U National Team power forward Isaiah Chappell announced his commitment to UC-Davis.

The Crossroads alum averaged 16 points per game at the 2022 Pangos All-American Camp and earned numerous honors for his performance last year, including a Tarkanian Classic Nike Division All-Tournament selection after leading Crossroads to a finals appearance, as well as a spot on the BorderLeague All-Tournament Team.

Most significantly, Chappell was named the 2022-23 CIF Gold Coast League MVP for his play throughout the season with an already-talented Crossroads team.

Chappell jumped onto our radars last May when he announced that he would be reclassifying to the class of 2024 and transferring to South Kent for a post-grad year. Soon after his first appearance in New England this past summer, the offers started rolling in.

Chappell collected Division I scholarship offers from NJIT, Montana, Brown, Montana State, New Hampshire, Colgate, Boston University, and American in addition to the one he ultimately decided to take from UC-Davis. His strong shooting abilities from the perimeter and in the mid-range were noted by NERR's Dylan Thayer at South Kent open gym this fall.

It will be fun to see Chappell compete in the elite NEPSAC Class-AAA conference before joining the Aggies of UC-Davis to play at the Division I level in the Big West Conference.
