Introducing Isaiah Chappell
Over the course of the next few weeks, the New England Recruiting Report will be profiling some of the most notable prospects set to arrive in the region this fall as part of the incoming prep school class.
One of the biggest new names in New England is that of Isaiah Chappell, a 6’9” 2024 stretch-big/power forward who hopes to carry on in the footsteps of his father, Mike Chappell, who played for Duke and Michigan State.
Chappell will be transferring to South Kent out of Crossroads School in California, where he was named 2022-23 MVP of the CIF Gold Coast League, which also includes powerhouses such as Sierra Canyon and is affiliated with the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS).
With one season left in his high school career, Chappell holds scholarship offers from the likes of NJIT, Montana, UC-Davis, Montana State, Brown, New Hampshire, Colgate, Boston University, and American, all of which came since arriving in New England two months ago.
Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Chappell was also named to the New Zealand U18 Men’s National Team for the FIBA U18 Men’s Asia Championship.
He's just one of several talented South Kent newcomers, also including familiar faces in 247Sports 2025 Top-40 Northwest Catholic transfer Badara Diakite, La Salle Academy transfer Kelvin Odih, Windsor High School transfer Rashawn Tibby, and others, joining a team that already brings back some elite players, including recent UMass-commit Nate Guerengomba, recent Iona-commit Jacob Hogarth, and others.
