Hurleys Running Camp in Mass Next Week
Bob Hurley Sr. and his son Danny Hurley will be running a week long camp next week at the Belmont Hill School in Massachusetts for high school players from the area.
Coach Hurley and the camp staff will present the approach to basketball excellence he developed at St. Anthony’s High School. Danny Hurley teaches these same skills at St. Benedict’s High School. Coach Hurley will bring 10 of his returning varsity players, his strength and conditioning coach, and a few of his senior assistant coaches.
The goal is to present ISL student athletes with an excellent basketball training experience and to create the opportunity for them to interact on and off the court with kids from inner city high schools where basketball has changed lives.
Camp participants can expect the following:
• Extensive instruction and training from legendary coach Bob Hurley Sr. (St. Anthony’s) and Dan Hurley (St. Benedict’s);
• Personalized strength and conditioning evaluation from the St. Anthony’s trainer;
• Lodging at the Belmont Hill campus with St. Anthony players and coaches where the high ethical standards Coach Hurley sets for his players will be practiced.
• Instruction by coaches on how student athletes should present themselves at AAU tournaments and college preparatory camps. (Many college coaches attend these functions and it is very important for players interested in playing in college to understand the expectations and codes of conduct.)
All participating athletes will work and compete together at a very high level during the day and then hang out together watching films, listening to lectures, and attending and playing games that will take place during the evenings. This is an outstanding experience for kids to raise the level of their playing and to be part of an experience where peers from different life experiences can find how much they have in common where basketball is concerned.
Also as part of the week of activities the St. Anthony’s team will scrimmage against two local travel teams, competing first against the New England Playaz on Monday night and then against the Boston Amateur Basketball Club on Thursday.
The camp will commence with check-in on Monday, June 15th at 9:00 am and ends on Friday, June 19th at 3:30 pm. Limited spots are still available and interested campers should contact Mark Murphy at [email protected].
