Hoosiers Get Noah

Indiana landed New England’s top prospect in the class of 2013 on Saturday night when Noah Vonleh committed to head coach Tom Crean while on campus for his official visit.

The news was first reported by ESPN.com.

Vonleh has been one of New England’s most celebrated prospects since first arriving on the grassroots scene with his Mass Rivals AAU team, back when he was only 14 years old.

He put up huge numbers during his first two seasons at Haverhill High School before transferring to New Hampton, and initially reclassifying to the class of 2014, only to make national news and return to his original 2013 class earlier this fall.

Vonleh cut his list down to just six schools last month – Syracuse, Indiana, Ohio State, Georgetown, Connecticut, and North Carolina – but ultimately only made it on one official visit.

“From day one Indiana has been recruiting me the hardest,” Vonleh told ESPN.com. “They were just letting me know how they could develop me into the player I want to be at the next level.  Their academics are good, they’re the number one team in the country, and they’ve got another great class coming in next year.”

Vonleh is a highly talented young man who has improved by leaps and bounds throughout his career.  Early on he was best known for his combination of size and handle.  Later, he tweaked his shooting mechanics and began the process of becoming a more consistent outside shooter.  Last year, he started to grow into his body at a more rapid rate and consequently became a more explosive athlete and dominant rebounder.  Even more recently, we’ve seen his low post game begin to evolve.

As he finishes his prep career up at New Hampton and moves on to Indiana, the most exciting part about his potential is the knowledge that he has continued to take his game to new levels at every stop along the way, and there’s no reason to expect anything less in the years to come.
