Hoop Mountain Spring Classic Event Recap
The walls of Stonehill College’s Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex were lined with division II and III college coaches as they were on hand to check out the 150 college prospects participating in Hoop Mountain’s New England Spring Classic. There was a little bit of everything for the coaches on hand including some unsigned seniors capable of making an immediate impact next season as well as a variety of talented underclassmen.
Here’s a look at the some of the guys who stood out:
2009
Lance Greene, Lexington – division II’s took notice as he scored in high volume throughout the night; making threes, pull-ups, and finishing at the rim
Matt Gibson, Lexington Christian – up to his normal tricks getting into the lane and threading the needle with his passing ability
Colin Halprin, Boston College – rebounded and finished inside as usual but also showed improved three-point stroke
Brendan Rollins, Brimmer & May – did a little bit of everything: made shots, rebounded, and finished inside
Allen Harris, Catholic Memorial – scored in a variety of ways as his athleticism and length put him above the competition
Craig Marriro, Newton North - used quick first step and tight handle to consistently get to the rim
Lashaun Yates, Wilby – caught coach’s eye with ability to stroke three ball
2010
Derek Retos, Brimmer & May – is there a shooter with deeper range?
Grozden Vukojevic, Boston Trinity – 6’8” forward who can do a number of nice things facing the basket
Eric Alleyne, Brimmer & May – penetrating and creating for others…making those around him better
Youri Dascy, St. Andrew’s – used his size and strength to rebound and score inside the paint
D.J. Fazio, Andover – steady guard stroked it behind arc when we watch and showed heady floor game
Alex Levine, Weston – has gotten stronger and more assertive inside while stretching defense to arc
C.J. Moss, Westport – heady lead guard who makes intelligent plays and goes hard to the rim
Demir Smajovic, Essex – great overall showing against good competition; made 3’s, pull-ups, and strong drives
Ramon Viches, Malden – made a series of athletic plays around the rim, rebounding & finishing
Velo Lukic, Boston Trinity – versatile guard who is a tremendous passer, good shooter, and a capable low post player as well
2011
Deric McCottrell, St. Sebastians – explosive athleticism was on display as he played above the rim all night long
Lutheurson Bonheur, Boston Trinity – explosively quick breaking people down as no one could stay in front of him
Cody Addison, Pingree – Williamson’s heir apparent at Pingree made a variety of plays off the dribble tonight
Nico Donato, Glastonbury – was productive on both ends of the floor, stripping people defensively and showing his all around game offensively
Justin Turner, Holy Name – little bit of a breakout night for talented sophomore who creates with intelligence
Ethan Sperry, RHAM – the 6’5” soph runs the floor well and has a nice shooting stroke out to 18 feet
2012
Michael Dougert, Northfield Mount Hermon – was productive getting into lane and kicking out to shooters
Thomas Mannion, Catholic Memorial – good showing for the youngster with a ton of upside
Conor Wynne, RHAM – showed high I.Q. despite not getting a ton of touches
Eddie Danek, Suffield – frosh followed up big year with nice scoring performance tonight
